Keeping fit and healthy during winter can be tough. Can’t face braving the cold outdoors? Feeling lethargic after an indulgent festive period? You’re not alone. We’ve decided to beat the January blues with some simple ways to keep fit and healthy during the first few months of 2020.
Bring it indoors
Sometimes the calling of the sofa can be too much and dragging yourself to the gym just isn’t going to happen. So why not bring the gym to you? Take your fitness level to new heights by scaling a flight of stairs, all from the comfort of your home. Try varying pace and intensity as well as including weights, press ups and lunging for a full body workout in minutes. Try to relax
Starting a new year (let alone a new decade) can be tough. Have you found yourself wistfully wondering what you’ve actually achieved in the last year? Or maybe you’ve got a busy 12 months ahead of you that just seems too much to tackle right now? Take a deep breath… aaaaaand relax.
The key to relaxation at home is creating a sacred space. Whether it’s a reading nook or yoga corner, find a space at home where you can channel all things Zen. It needs to be a space of calm where you can shut off your mind to the outside world. Light a candle if it helps, or play soothing music, but be sure to allocate some time out of your busy week to take a moment there to clear your mind of any stress of anxiety you may be feeling.
Eat Healthy
When it’s miserable outside and you’re feeling a bit meh then it can be tempting to spend your time snacking and filling yourself up on unhealthy comfort food. BUT, with Veganuary a key focus for many this year, why not join the hype and try a plant-based diet? Make the most of winter veg such as carrots, parsnips, swede or turnips and pick out different varieties that you may not normally choose. Then, give some of our NEW plant-based recipes a try, like our Curried Lentils Hey Dahl and Totally Tofu Curry dishes – we guarantee it will leave you feeling full of goodness!
